NorthWest Auto & Tire History
NorthWest Auto & Tire was established in the spring of 1971 by Don Fiala. The original structure covered 2,000 square feet and had four service bays. In 1972 a fifth bay was added with a half pit for doing front-end work.
Don ran Northwest Auto & Tire for about 4 years, but in 1975 Don decided it was time to go fishing; literally. He sold the shop to Skip Deedon, purchased a large fishing boat and went into the charter fishing business.
Skip has owned and operated NorthWest Auto & Tire since 1975. Prior to purchasing Northwest Auto & Tire Skip had worked as a Certified General Motors Mechanic at Sorensen Chevrolet in Waukegan IL. By 1981 we had out-grown the original facility and added two large truck bays. We started servicing medium duty trucks for our local companies. We also serviced Winthop Harbor’s school busses for many years.
Our business continued to grow and by 1990 we were out of room again. This time we tore down the original fifth bay to make room for 4 new bays and a parts room. The interior of the shop was also remodeled to allow for a larger office, customer waiting area and lunch room for the employees. The shop now occupies 6,000 square feet, has a total of nine bays, a large modern office, comfortable waiting area for customers and a separate lunch and coffee area for the employees as well as our customers.
