Windshield Chips
Stone chips can be a real nuisance and if left alone they can become very expensive.
A couple of years ago I had a small chip in my windshield, it was small and didn’t bother me so I ignored it. Bad decision on my part, and I know better. Sure enough one cold morning with the defroster on the little “chip” turned into a crack that traveled all the way across my glass, right through my field of vision. Bummer. Engineers call this“Thermal Shock”. I call it expensive.
If you want to avoid a costly repair, think about having that chip repaired during your next visit. Northwest Auto & Tire does not repair glass, but over our 36 years we have made friends in the glass business who will mend the damage while your car is at our shop for other service.
Most chips can be repaired for $60.00 which is much cheaper than a new windshield. Chips should be smaller than a quarter with no crack lines longer than an inch.
Save yourself some money and a lot of hassle by fixing that chip before it gets worse. If you are coming in for an oil change or other maintenance we can have it done for you while the car is here or while you wait. Just give us a couple days notice.
Be sure to check with your insurance company because most times chip repair is covered with no deductable. Call Mariska or Rob if you have a windshield chip you would like repaired.
